Explanations and Updates
Well, I'm not dead.

And I know that I have sorely neglected the site. I do apologize for that. Unfortunately, I've had private issues that have kept me from having any time or attention to spare for Transfictions.net. Now, before anyone starts to panic, that does not mean I'm shutting down the site. Quite the opposite exactly. Transfictions.net is paid up and good until Feb. 2012 so it's NOT going anywhere. And barring global cataclysm, I'll be renewing it at that time.

Which brings me to my next announcement. As I don't have the time or energy to be the full time admin that Transfictions.net needs and you all deserve... I'm looking for dedicated, interested folks who are interested in being site admins. I will remain the God account, but those who convince me that they can do the job will have full admin access. They will be able to handle any problems that arise.

Those who are interested, please email me (hana.noir at gmail.com)and tell me why you think you'd make a good admin for Transfictions.net. Tell me about yourself and any admin experience you may have and how much time you have to devote to the site. I will probably select more than one admin based on how many people email me.

So... thanks for hanging in there, guys, gals and bots! And I hope you all keep enjoying the site!

The Great Server Migration
Okay, it seems that you intrepid folks have managed to find the site... *wry grin* Here's the skinny as to what is going on.

I had to move the site due to hosting issues. Everything seems to have gone smoothly with one exception, which I'm sure has been noticed by now. The stories aren't coming up. I'm trying to figure out what's going on, conferring with the eFiction script people, but so far we're drawing a big fat blank. The stories folder IS on the server. The stories ARE in there, I've seen them. I've opened them and read them. But, for some reason, the script can't seem to find the stories folder. I'm not giving up, and I'm not ready to make a clean wipe and start over. If there's anyone that knows anything about PHP scripts and such and would like to give me the benefit of their expertise, PLEASE don't hesitate to let me know! Until then... just hang in there!

Site Status and Updates
Just a few updates for you guys who have been so patient with us.

We've been incommunicado again... Meister and I were caught smack in the middle of the Great Kentucky Ice Storm of '09. We JUST got our power back on as of last night around 8:30. We spent a week and a half with no power, no heat, no water... and most of that time we spent in the county emergency center. So, yeah, we've been a bit behind on things.

So...first things first. I'm working my way through the backlog of unverified members, deleteing the porn spam and 'bot (the unfriendly spam kind) names from the list. After that, I'll start verifying the legit members of the site. And this leads me to something that I feel needs to be addressed. I know we have mature content here, that can be accessed by an age verification script, but I ask everyone... Please keep it clean when it comes to your registered user name. We DO have underage members here and I would prefer to NOT see people with slang terms for private body parts in their usernames. I will be adding this to the site rules and anyone that tries to register with such a name will have their account deleted. If you feel that your name might be a violation of this, please email me and we'll talk.

Secondly, I'm still planning to move the site to a more reliable hosting service as soon as I can. My current host is seriously lacking in customer service or any sort of contact standards whatsoever, so Transfictions will be moving as soon as I can get things set up. I'm not asking for donations, but I also won't turn them away. Every little bit comes in handy for server costs and domain registry fees. Thank you SO much to those who have already donated to this cause.

Again, questions are always welcome. Either leave a comment here or email me and I'll try to answer what I can as soon as possible. Thanks again for hanging in there with us! You guys are the best. ^^

Backing up Data
As both the webmistress and I have noticed, the site is currently back up. We are thankful for this stroke of luck, as hopefully we will have time to back up the stories and site this weekend and by the end of January/ first week or so of February- we will have another domain up.

One that hopefully will not crash without warning like this one.

Thank you for your time and your patience! We won't let this site die. :)

A Few Words On Account Registration
To Whom It May Concern:

I have noticed a recent influx lately of what seems to be people registering multiple accounts because their first attempt doesn't seem to work. People, for the love of lil bots... READ the welcome note that's right on the front page when you come to the site. You will NOT have access to everything on your account until your account has been verified by a mod/admin.

I'm asking people who may have registered with us more than once to either delete the unused accounts or notify me of them so that I can do it. There's no sense in having unused accounts cluttering up the site.

When you register an account with us, please be patient and wait a couple of hours before assuming the worst. I have very serious responsibilities away from this website and while I may not get to it in the next five minutes, I will get to it shortly. I check the site as often as possible for new members and/or issues that need to be dealt with.

If you have any questions, comments or complaints, feel free to email us or leave a shout in the shoutbox. Thanks, all! You're the greatest!

We Has A Name! (but not a flavor)
Okay, I finally gave up on the poll as no one bothered to vote and/or give us any feedback. But if you will direct your eyes to the top of the page you'll see that we have a new name!!! ^__^

The new url for the site is http://www.transfictions.net

So if you'd like to update your weblinks, or share our site url with others, go right ahead! If you have the old url bookmarked, you can keep it the same as the new url merely redirects you here. It's just an easy way for people to remember the website address and pass it along to others. Hope you all like it!!

A Site By Any Other Name...
We need a name for our fanfiction site, everyone! Please take a moment to go to the poll at the bottom of the page and vote for your pick! If you don't like either one, then send in a suggestion!

Movieverse Recategorization
Just a quick note to let y'all know that the new category system has been put in place in the Movieverse section. I recategorized the already-existing stories there as I thought best. However, I didn't thoroughly read every story, so please feel free to check where I put your stories and re-recategorize them yourself, if you feel it necessary.

Same goes for the G1 section, incidentally.

Thanks!

PLEASE READ! Finalized New Category Structure w/Definitions.
All right, after getting some feedback, I think I have finalized the new category structure for the archive. Below is the finalized list categories, followed by some definitions of the categories/subcategories that might be ambiguous.

PLEASE NOTE: Going forward, all stories in the Relationship section designated as Romance, Established Relationship, UST, and Non-Consensual/Dark MUST include in the story's summary a notation of what pairing(s) is/are involved in the story. This is so that potential readers who may wish to avoid certain kinds of pairings may more easily do so and also so that readers looking for stories about a specific pairing may more easily find them. If you've already posted stories to which this rule might apply, please take a few moments now to edit your stories' summaries appropriately.

DEFINITIONS

Intentional Badfic: A story, not necessarily a parody, that you deliberately write badly. i.e., you poke fun at the goopy songfic genre by writing something over-the-top goopy, intending for it to be bad in a fun way.

Crack: Stories that are just bizarre, with the bizarreness going beyond a simple alternate universe. If the story deals with a cracky pairing, consider cross-categorizing it to one of the relationship subcategories as well.

Angst: Angst fics are usually introspective and generally involve characters suffering emotionally in some way. A story that deals with a character's emotional reaction to the death of another character or to some other tragic situation would be considered angst. A story that deals with a character's emotional reaction to a romantic or friendship break-up would be angst. Generally, if the story's about a character having a negative emotional reaction to something, it's angst.

Dark: Fics that deal with subjects that most people would consider disturbing or morbid would go here.

Hurt/Comfort: This is exactly what it would seem to be: a character is hurt in some way, and the other character(s) comfort him/her. The "hurt" can be emotional (death of a loved one, mental problems, memories of past trauma, etc.) or physical (rape, torture, injury, kidnapping, illness, disease, etc.), which often leads back to emotional hurt. These can also be considered Relationship stories and if yours is, then you might want to consider cross-categorizing.

Erotica: Stories that in whole or in part portray graphically-described, human-analogue sexual content (i.e. the males have penises, for instance) should go here. All stories categorized into this section should be rated FRAO. Note that this category could also be called what in the fandom has become known as "sticky fic." If your story does NOT contain graphically-depicted sex of a human-analogue nature, then it should go in one of the Relationship subcategories, rated appropriately of course.

Slash: The general definition of slash fanfiction is fanfiction that focuses on the romantic and sexual pairing of a same sex couple. Now, with Transformers, this is a bit of a grey area, as different people have different ideas about Transformers and sexuality. Some fans believe that Transformers have no real gender and thus that it's impossible for there to be such a thing as slash because they feel that amongst them there is no such thing as a "same sex relationship." On the other hand, other fans feel that Transformers do indeed have gender just as we humans do, and that it is clear who is male and who is female among them and, thus, that slash does indeed exist with Transformers. And some of those people feel that slash is "wrong." And in between those two there are probably dozens of other stands about the issue.

Well, our job here at this archive is not to make judgments about such things. However, in the interests of (hopefully) peace and harmony here, we do need to define what for the purposes of this entire archive in all categories is officially going to be considered slash. So, on behalf of all the mods/admins here, I am going to do so. Our definition may require you to adjust your thinking on the subject a bit, no matter which side of the fence you sit on. Note that we do this with the intention of trying to be fair to as many people as possible, not to sanction/censor slash writers or to force anti-slash people to be more tolerant of it. While we can't cover every possible aspect that might or might not be considered slash by some people, we hope that our definition/guideline will be clear enough that authors can categorize their stories appropriately and readers can make an as-informed-as-possible choice about whether or not they want to read any given story.

So here goes. For the purposes of this archive, we are going to assume that Transformers are gendered. We are going to further assume that characters who are called "he" and who have what a human being would consider to be male voices are male and that characters called "she" and who have what a human being would consider to be female voices are female. With that definition in mind, stories about two male or two female characters having a romantic/sexual relationship will be considered slash stories.

Now, there has been some question about where to draw a line in terms of content for a slash story. Meaning, what level of content will make a story slash for the purposes of this archive. So, this is what we've decided:

Two same-sex individuals can have feelings for each other and can be shown acting on those feelings up to the point of a chaste kiss WITHOUT the story having to be classified as slash. Anything beyond same-sex chaste kissing, however, MUST go in a slash category, all of which are found in the Relationship or Erotica category. That sort of story can also go in any other category you choose, according to the type of story that it is, but it must be in a slash category. The combination of this definition and the rule regarding noting the pair(s) involved in any story designated as romantic/sexual should give a reader an idea as to the content of the story they're looking to read, and then the reader can make an informed choice about whether or not to read it. Also, if an author wants to err on the cautious side and label a fic with any sort of slashy content as slash, that's perfectly fine. It's just not required.

We believe this to be as fair as possible to all sides of the issue. Please bear these definitions and guidelines in mind as you post and read stories. Authors who flagrantly disregard this guideline can be sanctioned at the admins' discretion. Readers who disregard this guideline and fuss inappropriately in story reviews can be similarly sanctioned.

UST: Unresolved/Unrequited Sexual Tension. Stories with one character having feelings for the other and the other being totally clueless about it would fall here, for instance. Or, there might be a situation where two characters have feelings for each other but are unwilling or unable to act on them for whatever reason.

WAFF: Warm And Fuzzy Feelings. Fics that give you a nice feeling inside. They can be relationship-based or not, which is why it's got its own category here. If your story is relationship-based as well, however, consider cross-categorizing into the appropriate Relationship subcategory.

There you go. If anyone has any questions whatsoever about any of this, please feel free to give me a buzz. In the meantime, I'll be putting the structure in place section by section. During that process, I will be recategorizing already-posted stories, if necessary, out of "extinct" categories and into the new corresponding categories/subcategories. If you would like to adjust the categorization yourself and/or add categories to your stories or if you feel that I recategorize your stories inappropriately, please feel free to make adjustments as you see fit.

Thanks!

Category Restructuring
Hi, all! I'm Nightwind, your friendly neighborhood G1 section mod.

I've taken it upon myself to come up with a revamped category structure for (at least) the G1 archive. The reason I'm doing so is that I'd like for the category structure to be as specific as possible so that all you folks can A) More easily find the kind of stories you want to read and B) More easily avoid the kind of stories that you don't want to read. To that end, I'm proposing to extend the category selections and create, in some cases, a series of subcategories. In this way, I'm hoping that things can be better-organized and more easily accessible.

However, I'm not sure I covered all the bases here, so I'd like some input from y'all, both authors and readers, as to the preliminary proposed structure below. Did I miss categories? Is there a sub-category you'd like to see added? Any other suggestions? Any and all input/feedback would be appreciated. So, here's what I have so far:

Proposed Categories:

Drama
--General
--Angst
--Tragedy/Character Death
--Hurt/Comfort
--Dark

Comedy
--General
--Parody

Action/Adventure

Supernatural

Horror
--"Blood and Guts"
--Psychological Horror

Mystery/Suspense
--Murder
--Crime
--Thriller

One-Shots

Crack(?)

Intentional BadFic

Crossovers

Script Format

WAFF

Poetry

Relationships
--Friendship
--Family
--UST
--Romance, Het
--Romance, Slash
--Romance, Mutiple Partners
--Established, Het
--Established, Slash
--Established, Multiple Partners
--Non-Con/Dark, Het
--Non-Con/Dark, Slash
--Non-Con/Dark, Multiple Partners

Erotica
--Het
--Slash
--Multiple Partners
--Non-Con/Dark

There you go. Note that most of these terms will be defined when the category structure is finalized. For now, I'm just looking for input in terms of categories/subcategories that I might have missed. As I said, your input would be greatly appreciated. You can comment here or you can email me at nightwind@transfan-asylum.net.

Note: Deadline for feedback is 11:59PM US Central Daylight Time today, Saturday, Sept. 1. Because I don't want to drag this out for too long. If I don't hear from y'all by then, I'm doing as I see fit. :)

Thanks in advance!

Help Wanted! And Site Info
As you can see, this site is still in the initial stages of creation. Not all the categories (what there are) have sub-genres or characters listed. Any and all help will be very much appreciated.

*Admins/Mods Needed*

As the site seems to be catching on, we will be in need of admins and mods. If there is a particular TF universe that you enjoy, feel free to volunteer to mod that section.

*Beta Readers*

If you are interested in being available as a beta reader, then please take the time to check the beta reader option in your profile.

*Site Name!*

We need a name and a slogan for the site! If you think one up, IM or email HanaNoir (info in profile) with your suggestions. A poll will be made and you, the members, will vote on the name of this site!

*Attention Artists!*

We are looking for a banner to go at the top of our page here. The dimensions need to be as follows: Width - 469 pixels Height - 200 pixels. it can feature characters from any of the Transformer continuities, but a mix of all would be nice. We look forward to seeing what you can come up with!

*Mature Content Stories*

In order to be able to view stories with mature ratings, you must select the age of consent statement in your profile. Please note that if you are underage and you do so, when you are found out, you will be permanently banned from this site. There will be no exceptions. We will not have our community threatened by the immature and selfish actions of a few members.

*NEW!! Transformers Art Gallery?*

We are also wondering if there's any intererest in an all Transformers art gallery. If you think you'd be interested, take a moment to vote on the poll. Thanks!

If you have any questions, comments, problems or suggestions, please feel free to contact an admin or a mod. We'll do our best to help you out!
